The Brownsville Rotary Club announces Tara G. Sharpe is student of the month for December 2006. The daughter of Gregory and Natalie Sharpe of Filbert Heights, she is a member of the 2007 Senior Class at Brownsville Area High School. She is involved with Student Council, National Honor Society, Rotary-Interact, Gateway and the Youth Education Association. She also competes on the Math Competition, Debate and Academic League Teams.
Sharpe has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average throughout high school and is now an active participant in Penn State’s dual enrollment program, through which she has completed 13 credits of college coursework. She is invited to attend classes at Johns Hopkins center for talented youth, through which she attended seminars in revolutionary history and neuroscience. Sharpe is especially proud of her involvement with the Redstone Living Historians, and has volunteered and re-enacted at the Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation’s Military Through The Ages and Victory Days celebrations for the past four-years, both as a Salvation Army Lassie and member of an 18th Century ranging company.
She also enjoys the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing. Sharpe plans to major in chemical engineering, and though she is unsure where she will matriculate this fall, has been accepted to MIT, Johns Hopkins, Case Western and Penn State, with admission pending at Princeton, Carnegie Mellon and Cornell.
