County’s hard-to-recycle program promoted
POINT MARION – Borough council announced hard-to-recycle items will be picked up next week and encouraged residents to participate in the program. Used tires, large steel appliances – washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, hot water tanks, stoves – and old electronic appliances will be collected. Hazardous materials and paint cans will not.
Council President Ted Shaffer said residents can leave the items out to be picked up May 8 through 12.
There is a fee to dispose of the products. Residents will be charged $1 for each used tire and for electronic appliances and $2 for large steel appliances.

In other business, council announced a public hearing in regards to the Camp Run Road Bridge was held April 18, but took no action on the bridge Wednesday.
The bridge, according to borough engineer Steve Buchanan, is currently in a state of disrepair and needs to be closed, restricted to one land or permanently fixed.
A steel beam that runs the length of the bridge has corroded and needs to be replaced if the bridge is to remain two lanes. If the bridge is restricted to one lane, the weight limit would probably need to be lowered.
Borough manager Art Strimel said residents who attended the public hearing were landowners who were concerned about accessing their property via Route 119 if the Camp Run Road Bridge was closed.
Council did not say when they would decide what action they would take in regards to the bridge.
Some type of action must be taken soon for the bridge to remain open.
As for other matters, council announced the 28th annual Albert Gallatin Regatta will be held during the last weekend in May, with the parade set for May 26.
Shaffer said the annual Regatta Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will follow the traditional route: cross over the Cheat River Bridge and go through the business district, pass the borough building, onto Main Street, up to Penn Street, onto Morgantown Street, onto Broadway, back onto Main Street and into the Point Marion Community Park where it will conclude at the former Houze glass factory area.
In addition to the parade, services will be held to honor deceased members of the armed forces of all wars.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. May 16 at the borough building.
