He was born on January 6,… Michael Yanosik, 89, of Masontown, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital.
He was born on January 6, 1918, in Leckrone, the son of the late Stephen and Katherine Kilhof Yanosik.
After serving his country in the Army in World War II, Michael worked as a Coal Miner at United States Steel Corp. for 40 years. He was a member of Saint Mary’s R.C. Church, Leckrone, Pa., and the UMWA 6321. Michael was a founding member of the Edenborn Fire Department, a Life Member of both the American Legion Post 423 and the VFW Post 4584, and a 66 year member of the National Slovak Society.
Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen Tomai Yanosik in 1989 and was the last living member of his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carol Russo and husband Richard of Masontown, Pa.; grandson, Sean Russo of Tampa, Fla.; grandson, Todd Russo and Valerie Filicetti of Mason-town, and great-grand-daughters: Taylor Ann and Mia Elizabeth of Upper Saint Clair.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH, JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and River Avenue, Masontown of Friday, May 4, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., until Saturday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m., when a Prayer Service will be held followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church, Leckrone with Reverend Father Donald P. Trexler as Celebrant.
Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone where Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by the Masontown VFW and American Legion.
Edenborn Fire Department will hold service on Friday at 6 p.m.
