THE 111TH FAYETTE COUNTY SUNDAY SCHOOL CONVENTION will be held today and Saturday in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 30 Church St., Smithfield with the theme “Be a doer of the Word.’ Featured speaker will be the Rev. John Cook, program director of Rankin Christian Center in Braddock, Pa. The choir from First Baptist Church in Fairchance will present special music today and the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Choir on Saturday. There will be a banquet Saturday at 5 p.m. and special music presented by 11-year-old Micah High playing the violin. The services are open to the public. CONFLUENCE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, Yough and Sterner streets, about 25 miles south of Somerset on Route 281 and 30 miles east of Uniontown at the base of the Youghiogheny Dam, announces the Rev. Tom and Jan Charles will hold Encouragement Services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Charles was ordained a minister in the Church of the Nazarene in 1974. He graduated from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He pastored seven churches during his 32 years of active ministry in the states of Indiana and Pennsylvania. He is a former pastor of the Confluence Church of the Nazarene, having pastored there from 1987 to 1998. He also pastored two years in Monongahela before taking retirement. He and his wife, Jan, reside in Norman, Indiana and are active in a local church and in doing pulpit supply and holding revivals and other meetings. Charles will preach on encouragement. KLONDIKE CLERGY ASSOCIATION, representing the churches of Masontown and McClellandtown, is sponsoring the eighth annual German-Masontown CROP Walk on Sunday, May 20. Local churches, Scout groups, organizations and clubs are being invited to walk in this local effort to end hunger both locally and worldwide. The money raised goes to Church World Service, the parent organization of CROP. Twenty-five percent of the money is returned to the local community to assist local food banks address hunger needs at home. Last year, the local CROP Walk raised $5,900 and returned $1,475 to Masontown and McClellandtown food pantries. Anyone interested in participation should call the local coordinator, the Rev.
