Missing Hopwood woman found
State police and other emergency officials found a Hopwood woman unharmed after she went missing Friday afternoon. According to officials, Shelia Vaught, 18, was located following a brief search after she was reported missing from Route 40 on the Summit Mountain shortly after noon.
Firefighters from North Union Township, along with emergency personnel from Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance, set up a staging area for the search in a parking lot on Jumonville-Coolspring Road.
A search and rescue dog was deployed in the area of the Watering Trough on Route 40 to try and locate Vaught.
Police said that eyewitnesses believed they saw Vaught in a Hopwood business around 2 p.m. but those reports were not confirmed.
She was found a short time later, police said.
Officials said Vaught suffers from cystic fibrosis, which is a degenerative disease that affects the body’s ability to breathe and limits walking.
It was not immediately clear why Vaught was walking on Route 40.
