Road closing announced

1 min read

The ongoing construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway will temporarily close a section of Old Pittsburgh Road (Route 51) near the boundary of North Union and Menallen townships. Joe Agnello of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said in a traffic advisory that the road would be closed from Altman Hill Road and just north of Esther Drive starting Monday.

Motorists south of the closure will be detoured onto a temporary access road to Route 51 south. North of the closure, motorists will be detoured via Route 119.

The tie-in of Esther Drive to Northgate Road for traffic south of the closure should be open by Aug. 1. Those north of the closure will have to use an existing detour to get to Route 51.

That tie-in will not be ready until mid-November.
