Community Foundation of Fayette County announces grants
Community Foundation of Fayette County Chairman David R. Hughes has announced that 33 community-based organizations were recently awarded about $47,000 in grants for the spring project support cycle to assist with community improvement activities. “Last year, project grants totaled approximately $68,000 and fund initiative and scholarship awards were over $134,000”, said Hughes.
The projected grants budget for 2007 is $100,000. The project support grants cover a wide array of projects in the County including children and youth services, community and neighborhood improvements, education, arts and culture, historic preservation, and health and human services.
Those receiving grants are:
? American Red Cross for emergency assistance to Fayette County residents.
? Animal Angels to provide services for stray, abandoned, abused and unwanted dogs and cats from the community.
? Ballet Lafayette Inc. for the production of “Mary Poppins, Extraordinary Nanny.”
? Brownfield Community Center’s library toward the purchase of computers and Internet connection to begin computer learning for all ages at the library.
? Communities in Schools of Southwest PA Inc. in support of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performance for fourth-graders and summer concert.
? Connellsville Lions Club for Campaign SightFirst II.
? Connellsville Little League to support its lighting project at the field.
? Crosskeys Human Services Inc. for its Senior Bridge Program, which works with the elderly in the community.
? Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority to support the Storey Square Summer Concert Series.
? East End United Community Center Inc. to support its summer enrichment program at the center.
? The EdVenture Group for its After School Excellence project in Fayette County schools, working to improve math and reading skills.
? Fayette Agricultural Improvement Association Inc. to support construction of concession building in outdoor arena.
? Fayette County Agricultural Land Preservation Board to support creation of a Web site.
? Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School to support its innovative program “High Tech at the Vo-Tech.”
? Fayette County Community Action Agency to support the revitalization of Uniontown’s East End community.
? Fayette County Community Service All-Star Award scholarship awards to outstanding high school and college students for outstanding service within our local community.
? Fayette County Soroptimist Club to assist with its osteoporosis walk.
? Fayette Progress Council for flowers to be planted on Community Planting Day.
? 4-H Market Goat, 4 Hooves and a Heart Beat Community Club to provide goat pens at the Fayette County Fair.
? Habitat for Humanity of Fayette County to support the construction of three houses this year.
? Highlands Hospital in Connellsville to support the start of an outpatient satellite EKG service.
? Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Fayette for recruitment of volunteers and expansion of services.
? Jubilee Soup Kitchen for feeding the poor and needy of the area.
? Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to assist in underwriting a portion of its patient financial aid program.
? Mon Valley Divers Rescue, Search and Recovery Team to assist with the purchase of a vehicle recovery kit for those who may be trapped underwater inside of a vehicle, boat or aircraft.
? National Road Heritage Corridor and Redstone Foundation for their 2007 Tourism Summit.
? Pennsylvania Federated Gardens Clubs for the beautification of Point Look-Out on Route 40 East.
? St. Mary School in Uniontown for its after school and snow delay programs.
? State Theater Center for the Arts in Uniontown for a production.
? Threshold Housing Development Inc. for tools and equipment for its projects to build diverse housing plans across Fayette County.
? Uniontown Public Library for its summer reading program.
? Uniontown Station Clubhouse for training of staff members to be certified.
? WVU Foundation on behalf of West Virginia University to support wildlife habitat restoration at Fort Necessity National Battlefield
