Luzerne Twp. Shots fired
State police in Belle Vernon are investigating an incident in which several rounds of rifle bullets were fired toward the State Correctional Institution at Fayette in Luzerne Township around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said at least two rounds entered the prison’s perimeter. The prison is located at 50 Overlook Drive and opened in 2003.
The 2,000-bed prison holds 53 acres inside the perimeter’s fence and is a 692,000-square-foot facility.

Accident reported
State police at Belle Vernon said Edward B. Harper Jr. of Republic was not injured when he lost control of his car on Filbert-Orient Road and sideswiped a utility pole around 6:25 p.m. on Sunday.

Accident reported
State police said no one was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 40 around 6:15 p.m. Saturday. Police identified the drivers involved as Jacklyn H. Chiovitti of Grindstone and Wardell D. Barnes of Grindstone.

Tractor stolen, returned
Howard Martin of Grindstone told state police in Belle Vernon that someone stole a lawn tractor from his yard, but found it left at the end of the driveway on Sunday, police said.

Citation filed
State police in Waynesburg filed a harassment citation against Waylon Hanlan, 19, of Bobtown after he allegedly made an excessive number of phone calls to a 14-year-old girl between Friday evening and early Saturday, police said.
Cumberland Twp.
Man to be cited
State police in Waynesburg said they will file a citation against a 23-year-old Crucible man who threw a beer can out the window of a moving vehicle on Route 21 early Saturday. Police said the man will be charged with scattering rubbing and restrictions on alcoholic beverages. The man was the front passenger in the vehicle.

Accident reported
State police in Waynesburg said Michael Anthony Nesto, 21, of Crucible was uninjured in a 5:55 a.m. accident near Airshaft Road. Police said Nesto’s vehicle hit an embankment and his vehicle overturned.

Matt Baliey, 22, of Etters, Michael Ward, 20, of Atglen and Jesse Lape, 22, of Portvue were each cited for disorderly conduct for an incident in California Borough at 4 a.m. Saturday, California police said.

California police said Michael Louis Stein, 21, of Pittsburgh was cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness stemming from an incident at a bar in California at 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

Items stolen
State police said several lawn tractors and gas grills owned by Lowe’s home improvement store on Matthew Drive were stolen between 12:50 and 2:44 a.m. Sunday.

Vehicle stolen
Patricia Ford of Perry Township told state police that her 2004 red and white Honda all-terrain vehicle was stolen from her home on Arch Street between April 30 and Wednesday, police said.

Man cited
Brian Grooms, 33, of Cardale was cited for harassment after he pushed Carla Bittner of Allison during an argument at a home in Luzerne Township at 1:55 p.m. Friday, state police said.

Monthly report issued
Cumberland Township police received 145 calls in April, according to Chief William F. Lewis Sr.
The calls included three burglar alarms, one assist, three animal complaints, five criminal mischief calls, 10 disturbances, five domestic violence complaints, five harassment complaints, six vehicle accidents, one sexual assault complaint, two suspicious persons calls, 12 thefts, four traffic violations reports, one trespassing complaint, 33 requests to speak with an officer and 29 other calls. Officers also issued one harassment citation, 18 traffic citations, three disorderly conduct citations, two permit violation citations and arrested six people for driving without a license.
