Fire destroys vacant house in Uniontown

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

A vacant home in Uniontown was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.

Uniontown Fire Department Chief Myron Nypaver said the blaze broke out at 180 Coolspring Street just after midnight. According to Nypaver, rapid intervention teams from Farmington and Connellsville Township volunteer fire departments joined the Uniontown department at the blaze, which was fully involved when officials arrived at the house.

The two-story home was completely gutted by the fire, with only the exterior frame still standing after the smoke dissipated.

Nypaver said firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze for more than two hours. He said that no one was in the home when the fire began and that no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

State police fire marshal trooper William Large and Uniontown Detective Donald M. Gmitter are investigating the blaze.

The cause has not been determined.

Emergency personnel from Uniontown police, state police and Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance joined firefighters at the scene.

The fire was the second large blaze in the city in the last week after a garage was burned on Stewart Avenue over the weekend.
