Police seek suspects in armed robbery

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

Uniontown police are searching for two men after an armed robbery at the Sunset Bar on South Mount Vernon Avenue Wednesday afternoon. According to Uniontown Detective Donald M. Gmitter, police were called to the bar around 4:15 p.m. after two men, both believed to be wielding guns, robbed the bartender and a patron.

Gmitter said the men entered the bar and one of them, wielding what witnesses described as an “Uzi” submachine gun, demanded all the cash from bartender, Chris Santore of Uniontown.

After the first suspect stuffed about $360 in cash into a white shopping bag, the second man held what witnesses believed to be a handgun to the back of a patron and demanded his money, Gmitter said.

The patron handed the suspect $3.50 and then both men fled the bar through a back door.

Gmitter said Uniontown Sgt. Wayne Brown tracked the men using police dog Brutus to an area near the Uniontown Polish Club where the dog lost their scent.

Gmitter described the men as two black males in their early 20s. One of the men was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed about 130 pounds and was wearing a black T-shirt and shorts. A more detailed description of the second suspect was not available, although Gmitter said both men wore stockings over their heads during the hold up.

Gmitter said he recovered a stocking near the polish club that might be one used by the men.

Gmitter said that no one was injured in the robbery.

“Everybody was out because the weather was so nice so I am hoping someone saw something,” Gmitter said.

Anyone with information regarding the armed robbery can call Gmitter at 724-430-2929.
