ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces both Sunday services will celebrate Mother’s Day with a special Mother’s Day Tribute by the Asbury Youth. All women of the church are invited by the Asbury United Methodist Men for a light breakfast in fellowship hall at 10 a.m.

The more casual 9 a.m. service will include the message “A Life of Significance’ by guest speaker Captain Chris Blessing of the Salvation Army, and praise choruses led by song leader Barb Cruse and special music by pianist Sharon Brown. The traditional 11 a.m. service includes Blessing’s message, and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir and Jim Hutchinson, director of music and organist. Asbury Youth meets Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for students in grades six to 12. BREAKTHROUGH WORSHIP CENTER, located on Ferguson Road in Mount Braddock, will continue in revival and worship Sunday at 10:30 a.m. when the church praise band leads a contemporary and prophetic worship service and senior pastors, the Rev. KLONDIKE CLERGY ASSOCIATION, representing the churches of Masontown and McClellandtown, is sponsoring the eighth annual German-Masontown CROP Walk on Sunday, May 20, starting at the Masontown-German Park. Registration begins at 12:45 p.m. The walk begins at 1:30 p.m. There is a three-mile walk and a six-mile walk. There are rest stops along the way and refreshments will be served at the end. Walkers are encouraged to get sponsor forms and donations. Each walker raising $50 receives a commemorative t-shirt. Sponsor forms are available at churches or by calling the Rev. Bob Lewis, coordinator, at 724-583-9207. Twenty-five percent of the money is returned to the local community to assist local food banks. LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH, 183 Oliver Road, Uniontown, part of the Southern Baptist Convention, every Saturday will have youth ministry and Ladies Bible study at 6 p.m. and Cowboy Church at 7 p.m. This Saturday, the church will have Free Spirit, a Southern gospel group from Fayette County. This Sunday at 10 a.m. is small group study and 11 a.m. is the worship hour with Free Spirit providing music. After the service, a free dinner will be served by the men of the church to all in celebration of Mother’s Day.

MASONTOWN COMMUNITY KITCHEN will serve its bi-weekly meal on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Masontown First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Church St. The menu will be taco salad with Panera breads, desserts and beverages. The Rev. Bob Cole of the Masontown Brethren Church will lead grace. Officials said, “The community is requested to invite someone they may know who is in need of a meal and the social and spiritual fellowship that is found at the kitchen.’

The last Community Kitchen on May 11 had an attendance of 150 people who enjoyed chicken salad sandwiches and salads. Almost 50 additional meals were provided as carry out for those unable to attend the meal. Several new volunteers were on hand to help with serving and cleaning up, which was appreciated by the staff. Hospitality is provided by volunteers and those who attend. The yellow roses are provided each year in memory of Janet Ray Jones by her husband, Jack Jones. They were her favorite flower.

Officials said, “Janet Jones is remembered by the congregation with much fondness for her outstanding musical ability. She was a member of the chancel choir and is remembered for her many solos during worship and at area worship and other celebrations. She was a church leader both as a deacon and later an elder. The Janet Ray Circle of Roscoe Presbyterian Women is named for her. The circle will give each woman present at the Mother’s Day service a begonia plant at the conclusion of the service.’

This is the last Sunday school session until fall.
