Hugs, Kisses, and Killing Momma’s

Hmph. Just when I was ready to completely put Sylar in the unconscionable evil category, he goes and shows a softer side. And then he killed his momma.

Only wait: if we’re to believe last week’s future episode of Heroes, it’s Peter who goes boom.

So what’s going on here? Did Hiro’s trip 5 years into the future somehow alter the present? Or is Sylar (Gabriel to his mother) misinterpreting Isaac’s visions?

Goes to show two things: a.) time travel is never a good thing and b.) every prophecy is open to a myriad of interpretations.

But back to Sylar’s momentary lapse of evil…

When he saw himself exploding, Sylar called Mohinder, obviously upset that he was going to kill innocent people. Killing the other heroes, well, Sylar rationalized that as “natural selection.”

Feels kinda like the movie “Highlander” to me. I half expected someone to bust out the catch phrase “There can be only one.”

Only wait.

Sylar doesn’t want to take out innocent people. The troubling thought led him to his mother, an overbearing woman who apparently can’t accept that her son should be happy just being him.

She thinks he traveled the world (doing what, I don’t know because I don’t think there’s a huge audience for a globe trotting watch fixer) and immediately starts harping on him to be more than he is.

Little does the cranky pusher know. I felt bad for Sylar. I’m sure most people can empathize about being pushed by someone who means well, but only ends up making you feel like a loser. It’s worse times a million when the pusher is a parent.

In a bit of foreshadowing, mommy dearest told Sylar that if he wanted, he could president. The crazy bat also told him that she knew he could never hurt anyone.

That was before her dear Gabriel turned her living room into a giant snow globe.

And giving his mom the proverbial finger for her faith, Sylar revealed to her that he felt he was going to kill people. She came at him with some scissors, and he stabbed her.

Waiting outside was Hiro, who seized the moment to freeze time and make an attempt at Sylar’s life. It didn’t quite work and Sylar broke his sword.

Seconds later, Hiro warped himself and Ando out of there.

And in other news …

Seems that the key to locating Sylar is Molly Walker, a little girl who faced him and survived. She calls him the Boogeyman. Her power is to find anyone, anywhere. It would seem that she would be useful to the “paper company” executives, but in the immediate, we were led to believe that she was going to find Sylar once Mohinder cured her of a virus.

By the end, Peter convinced Claire, his niece, to stay and help him fight the future. He sees himself exploding after absorbing Ted Sprague’s radioactive powers. He believes that fate brought them together and that they should combat the dreaded explosion together.

When they met up with Sprague and company (including Claire’s adoptive father), Peter immediately started absorbing his powers (which brings me to a question: is Peter’s ability automatic or does he have to consciously decide to absorb powers??) and seemed to be losing control.

Claire has a gun. And orders to kill if Uncle Pete can’t control himself.

Where oh where is this going to lead? And I’m seriously wondering … if Peter explodes, why is killing Sylar right now so imperative to stopping the explosion? With only two chapters left in the season, how this shakes out is going to be interesting.
