Center for Coalfield Justice announces grand opening of Washington County office

2 min read

The Center for Coalfield Justice, formerly known as Tri-State Citizens Mining Network, is holding a grand opening from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at its new office located at 96 E. Chestnut St., Washington. The event will be an opportunity to meet with the Center for Coalfield Justice staff and board members while learning more about the organization.

“The Center for Coalfield Justice is a community organization committed to justice for residents impacted by coal mining operations,” explained Bev Braverman, the chairwoman for the Center for Coalfield Justice.

The Center for Coalfield Justice is going through a major structural overhaul to help make the organization more effective, center officials said. The organization has changed its name, hired new staff, is holding a contest for a new logo and has now opened the new office space in downtown Washington.

“We are making organizational changes so that we can better serve our member organizations and those impacted by coal mining throughout western Pennsylvania,” said Jim Kleissler, the new executive director for the organization. “These are exciting times at the Center for Coalfield Justice. This reorganization will allow the center to better respond to the impacts of coal mining and related pollution on our communities and quality of life.”
