Local man faces court on child pornography charges

By The 2 min read

One year after he was charged with possessing and distributing child pornography at his Uniontown home, Donald W. Norton is scheduled to go before a federal judge and plead guilty in the case. Norton, 59, of 48 Leith St. was charged by state police with 50 counts of possessing and distributing child porn in June 2006. The case was eventually transferred to the federal court system.

A criminal complaint filed in the case charged Norton with 25 counts of sexual abuse of children for alleged distribution of computer files of child pornography on an Internet file-sharing program.

Norton was charged with 25 additional counts of sexual abuse of children after police discovered printed graphic images of child pornography in his possession, police said.

Authorities alleged that Norton posted video of a 3-year-old girl being raped in a bathtub by an adult male through the Gnutella Network, a peer-to-peer file-sharing network. The complaint indicated that the video has sound, and the child is heard crying.

When they searched his home last year, police said they found hundreds of printed child pornography images and shared pornography files on his computer.

In an order handed down last week, Judge Joy Flowers Conti scheduled Norton’s hearing for June 4.

Norton has been in jail since his arrest.
