Flames extinguished at storage units

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

Uniontown firefighters worked quickly to contain a blaze in several storage units at a storage facility in the city Saturday evening. At least two storage units at Fayette Storage of Uniontown sustained heavy fire damage and more than a dozen others sustained smoke damage as a fire spread through the complex around 6:15 p.m.

Firefighters used a circular saw to cut the locks off about 20 units to allow the smoke to clear from the structure while other crews snaked a 6-inch hose from a hydrant on Walnut Street to douse the flames.

Uniontown police were investigating the blaze Saturday night after several witnesses told officers they saw a suspicious man at the storage units about 20 minutes before the fire was reported.

Around 9 p.m., police had taken one man into custody for questioning regarding the fire.

State police fire marshal Trooper William Large was on scene but the cause of the fire was not available as of press time.

At least one firefighter suffered an injury to his left hand while battling the blaze. His condition was not available Saturday night.

In addition to Uniontown fire and police departments, Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance responded to the scene.
