Connellsville man convicted in assault case
A Connellsville man was convicted last week of aggravated assault, simple assault and resisting arrest in Fayette County Court after he assaulted a state constable on July 18, 2006, at his North Pittsburgh Street home. David James Wassell, 42, will be sentenced before Judge Gerald R. Solomon. Police charged Wassell after two constables – Albert Younkin and Scott Blacker – accompanied by three police officers, went to Wassell’s home to serve traffic warrants and a bench warrant.
Police said Wassell, who was hiding in a second-floor closet with clothes over him, refused to come out. He resisted when officers tried to pull him out.
Officers told Wassell he would be pepper sprayed if he continued to resist, but he did not surrender, according to court records. Police used the pepper spray, and as they took Wassell from the closet, he hit Younkin several times in the groin area.
In other verdicts, jurors last week convicted James E. Lucy, 49, of 139 Chess St., Monongahela, of driving under the influence of alcohol on Dec. 17, 2005.
Southwest Regional police pulled Lucy over on Route 906 and charged him after.
He will be sentenced on May 23 before Solomon.
Also last week, jurors convicted Aaron Anderson, 35, of Belle Vernon of disorderly conduct, but acquitted him of simple assaulted associated with a April 5, 2006, incident in Washington Township.
Judge John F. Wagner Jr. will sentence him at a later date.
