Man hurt trying to stop fight

By The 1 min read

A Pittsburgh man was injured when he intervened in a fight between a Brownsville woman and her boyfriend at a Redstone Township gas station on Saturday. State police in Belle Vernon said Dana L. Givens, 27, got into a fight with her boyfriend while they were driving on Route 166 around 9:30 p.m. Givens pulled into the parking lot of a gas station at the intersection of Routes 166 and 40.

Police said that when she got out of the car, her boyfriend started hitting her, and Sean E. Thornton, 44, intervened. While Givens was not injured, police said Thornton sustained a cut on his nose and an injury to his right hand.

During the course of the alleged fight, police said Givens’ boyfriend, who has yet to be charged, kicked the right front fender of a car owned by Bernadette Verbonach, 38, of Pittsburgh, causing a large dent.

Trooper R.R. Winnings Jr. said that charges would be filed against Givens’ boyfriend at the office of Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino after Verbonach provides an estimate of the damage done to her car. Givens boyfriend also will be charged with simple assault, police said.
