Two people injured in Route 51 accident
Two people were taken to area hospitals after the vehicles they were driving collided at the intersection of Route 51 and Town Country Road around 5 p.m. Monday in Franklin Township. According to a firefighter at the crash, both drivers, who were not immediately identified, were initially trapped inside their vehicles before rescue teams were able to extricate them.
Officials said the crash occurred when a man driving a pickup truck pulled out of Town Country Road and collided with a car traveling northbound on Route 51 driven by a woman.
The man was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment, firefighters said.
The woman was flown by medical helicopter to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, officials said.
Updates on their conditions were not immediately available but firefighters said their injuries did not appear life threatening.
