Uniontown police probe multiple gunshots
Uniontown police are investigating an incident in which 10 to 12 gunshots were fired possibly at officers while they were at the scene of a hit-and-run accident in the city’s East End early Monday. “There were shots fired, a bunch of them,” police Chief Ronald Kozak said.
Officers responded to the hit-and-run accident at the corner of Connellsville and South Gordon Street at 1:42 a.m. and heard gunshots they believe were fired at them from a parking lot on the other side of Connellsville Street.
Patrolmen H. Dennis Field, Raymond Miller and Dave Hromada tactically approached the lot, which is adjacent to Parks Casino Pizza, and found a man and a woman there.
Charges are pending against the man after he was found in possession of evidence linking him with the gunfire, according to a police report.
After examining the scene, police said the shots were fired from a position near the corner of the building that had hedges as cover.
A gun magazine, which was partially loaded with same caliber of ammunition as the spent bullet casings that were recovered from the lot, was recovered, police said.
The shots did not strike anyone and no injuries were reported.
