The Education Council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce has honored Travis Kimmel of Lemont Furnace, a junior at Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School, as a student of the month for March. The son of Bekki Kimmel and Edward Kimmel, he is undecided about which post secondary school he hopes to attend, but plans to study Web design and development with the career goal of becoming a Web page designer and owning his own computer business. He has interned at Nemacolin and volunteered for the 84 Lumber Classic and spring cleanups. He has also received first place in the 2006 Regional Pennsylvania Computer Fair on Curriculum Based and Information Based Web Designs, fifth place in the Westmoreland County Community College A+ Competition and has a 4.0 grade-point average.

Kimmel is very involved in extracurricular activities, including the Envirothon Quiz Team, Ecology Club, Swim Team and Student Council.
