Hann gains party nod in Connellsville Township
CONNELLSVILLE TWP. – The incumbent supervisor outpaced his challengers in the Tuesday election, virtually assuring him a second term. Democrat Donald R. Hann, the current board chairman, garnered 181 votes to capture the party nomination in the primary election with Democratic challengers Irvin L. Shipley III receiving 64 votes and Rodney F. Allen collecting 13 votes, according to unofficial results.
There were no Republican candidates.
Hann said Wednesday that the vote count indicated to him that residents were pleased with the progress being made by the supervisors.
“I think that the residents appreciate what we’ve been doing,” he said. “In the next six years, we’ll make more progress.”
Shipley said that seeking office for the first time was an educational experience.
“The loss was disappointing, but I’m glad I did it,” he said, adding that he plans to take a more active role in the township by volunteering to serve on various boards. Shipley said he was disappointed only approximately 400 residents turned out to cast ballots.
“We have 2,500 residents, you would have thought more would have taken the time to vote,” he said. “I am grateful to those that did take the time and especially those that voted for me.”
Allen could not be reached Wednesday for comment.
