Help needed for downtown events
The Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority is looking for sponsors, vendors and volunteers to work on committees for a variety of upcoming annual events. The first event is the car show scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday during the National Road Festival.
DBDA Director Judy Vrabel said she is asking businesses to donate door prizes for people who enter cars in the show, which is being held in the Fayette Chamber of Commerce’s parking lot on West Main Street and in the First National Bank parking lot at the corner of West Main and Arch streets.
Vehicle registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The registration fee is $5. The first 50 cars to register will receive dash plaques.
Prizes will be awarded to the top cars, a disc jockey will play music and food and drinks will be available.
The National Road Festival wagon train will travel through the city and stop for a ceremony in front of the chamber office around 2:30 p.m.
Mayor James Sileo will welcome the wagon train to the city.
Businesses wishing to donate door prizes and people who want to enter cars in the show should call Vrabel at 724-439-2926.
Farmers, vendors and sponsors are needed for the annual farmer’s market, and sponsors are needed to help pay expenses for the annual Storey Square Summer Concert Series, Vrabel said.
The farmer’s market and summer concert series will be held together every Monday in June, July and August from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The concert series will be held in Storey Square on Main Street and the farmer’s market will be on Main Street in front of the State Theatre Center for the Arts. One block of Main Street will be closed for the event.
Restaurants and sponsors for each of the 13 weekly Storey Square events are already lined up, but additional sponsors are needed to help cover other expenses, Vrabel said.
In addition, Vrabel said, volunteers willing to serve on a committee that will plan the annual Arts in the City, which is scheduled for Sept. 8, should also call her.
The committee is meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Uniontown City Hall.
Arts in the City will feature 65 craftspeople and artists displaying their creations in booths on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. There also will be food vendors, strolling musicians and other entertainment.
The DBDA also is planning the annual Light-Up Night for Nov. 29. A parade and other activities are being planned.
