Yatsko holds off challenge
Incumbent Menallen Township Supervisor Robert “Tweety” Yatsko held off newcomer Barry Jordan to earn the Democratic bid in the November election, according to unofficial results Wednesday. With two of three township precincts reporting as of press time Tuesday night, Yatsko was ahead by a mere 22 votes.
After all the ballots were counted, unofficial tallies revealed Yatsko ended up securing the Democratic nomination by garnering 53 percent of the vote with 449 votes. Jordan collected 405 votes.
Yatsko will face no Republican opposition in the fall.
In a recent interview, Yatsko said he is seeking a third term because he wants to finish projects he and his fellow supervisors began, including installing sewer and water lines throughout the township, in addition to adding more fire hydrants and streetlights.
Yatsko said during his two terms, property taxes were not increased. Since being elected in 1996, he said he helped build a playground at Menallen Elementary School and organized annual township picnics and cleanup weeks.
