Barry Elsworth Matthews of Richmond, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007, to be with our Lord. He was 66… Barry Elsworth Matthews of Richmond, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007, to be with our Lord. He was 66 years old.
He was born September 16, 1940, in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the son of George T. Matthews and Ruth O’Neal Matthews.
A graduate of Uniontown High School, he entered the United States Marine Corps in 1958 and served until 1962.
Barry was the C.E.O. for over forty years of Matthews Materials Handling Systems in Richmond, Virginia.
He was a member of the James River Retriever Club, an avid sportsman and chef.
Barry was a loving, devoted grandfather, father, husband and brother.
He was so proud to be from Uniontown.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth O’Neal Matthews Genelli of Uniontown, Pa.; his three sisters: Judy Guseman, Louise Brashear and Peggy Matthews; as well as his wife, of 46 years, Marilyn Coffman Matthews; his two sons: Brett Matthews, U.S.M.C., and Brandon Matthews; and his grandsons: Dalton Matthews and Hunter Matthews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the WEST CHAPEL of the BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, Virginia, on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Robert Bluford will officiate.
Flag folding and presentation of the flag will be made to his mother and to his wife.
Taps will be played.
A reception will be held at the Raintree Swim and Racquet Club immediately following the Service.
