Officials note crime prevention success in neighborhood

By The 2 min read

Fayette County District Attorney Nancy D. Vernon and Kyle W. Sneddon of the Fayette County Drug Task Force were guest speakers at a recent meeting of the Gallatin Avenue Concerned Citizens Association. About 50 members of the association attended the meeting Wednesday at American Legion Post 51.

Sneddon credited the task force for making seven drug busts in the Gallatin Avenue neighborhood during the past six months.

He commended Uniontown police for their hard work in the neighborhood and citizens for their vigilance and for calling police with tips about drugs and other crimes.

“There is a total subculture existing today that only live to secure money any way they can, through purse snatching, home invasions, burglaries, anyway they can get money to obtain drugs,” Sneddon said.

He said there has been a major escalation in drug trafficking in the county.

Vernon said the drug task force was created with assistance from state Attorney General Tom Corbett and is becoming a model for task forces in the state.

Randy Eicher, the association’s crime watch committee chairman, is working with police to organize a series of crime prevention walks in the neighborhood.

Association President Janet Bill encouraged residents to continue to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles, take note of license plate numbers and report any suspicious activity to police association officers, who would then contact police.
