“Higher Ground” opens the album by bringing a little funk to the house with its Stevie Wonder keyboards and smooth grooves. “Keep Pushin'” follows with a swirling organ opening reminiscent of Yes, King Crimson or Deep Purple, before settling in with the smooth, soulful vocals of Brandon Matsook. The band also proves they can kick it up a notch when needed. “Off My Mind” is one of the album’s standouts with its Allman Brothers flair and punch. The hard-core blues number “Lonely Street” is sure to be a crowd favorite and features a killer bass by Matsook. “Newspaper Near Deak Ter” is another charmer that should be receiving radio play. The lyrics on this debut release are as strong as the band is tight. Matt Enos and Matsook provide a great mixture of vocal arrangements as drummer Chad Friedman lays out a steady backbeat. Mike Willis is a joy to listen to on keyboards as he pours it out on every track. His sound is the thread that ties the entire band together.

I was listening to this CD on my way to work and almost decided to skip the hassles of my job and spend the entire day driving and enjoying the great sounds. After realizing that it probably wasn’t such a great idea, I compromised by playing the CD in my office and mellowing out. I couldn’t wait for someone to ask how my day was going! Color Wheel rolls out a spectrum of sounds that transform into an eclectic musical buzz. Does anyone have a bag of Doritos?

Make sure you catch these guys at a show near you…and enjoy the Brew!
