Fine arts
The Perryopolis Fine Arts Club met at the home of Lucetta Prestia on May 14 with president, Pat Filak presiding.
Lois Carson gave the program on “School Days.” She showed a large photo of the “Tom Thumb Wedding,” presented at the Perry Township High School (now Frazier) around 1917.
To our knowledge, Craig Martin is the only one of the cast still living from this event, in which first-graders played the bride and groom. About 50 elementary students in gowns and tuxedos completed the cast.
Lois also read parts of her mother’s (Sylvia Hixenbaugh Sechrist) valedictorian speech in 1914, which sounded like a sermon.
Goose update
Sad to say, there is no activity in the goose nest. The mother duck did come back, but didn’t take a turn sitting on the nest. She just sat near the Mother Goose and seemed to keep her company.
Mrs. Goose seems determined not to give up on the eggs, but it’s past the time when they should have hatched. We know that Mr. and Mrs. Goose are fertile, because they hatched out two goslings last spring. The eggs were laid around Easter when it was cold and snowy, so the eggs may have gotten too cold, rendering them infertile.
In other “Bird Brained News,” Crabby found a bird nest inside her car motor. She took it out and thought that was the end of it. But no, a week later she took her car to Bubnash’s to have the air conditioner repaired only to find another bird’s nest was being built in her motor. The air conditioner wires had been bitten in half and that was the reason the a/c wasn’t working. Who knew that birds like to chew wires?
Crabby Googled “birds in the motor” and all she could find was that putting a fake snake where you’re having bird problems may scare them away. She put two fake snakes in the car motor and one on the hood to scare off the birds and forgot about it.
The next day she ran into town and visited the post office, the bank and the grocery store, before she realized that the fake snake was still on her car hood.
So if you saw Crabby with a fake snake on her hood, she hasn’t really lost it, she’s just having a senior moment.
