Cookouts honor district EMS workers
The Division of Pre-Hospital Services at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh invited area emergency medical services (EMS) professionals to attend one of three cookouts held around the region in honor of EMS. Cookouts were held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, May 21 at Mercy Jeannette Hospital, 600 Jefferson Ave. in Jeannette; from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at the Uniontown Fire Hall, 80 N. Beeson Blvd. in Uniontown; and from 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 25 through 2 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, 1400 Locust St. in Uptown Pittsburgh. All events will be held rain or shine.
Hundreds of EMS providers from throughout the region gathered to enjoy a variety of grilled fare – burgers, hot dogs, brats and the like -specially prepared for them by Mercy physicians and pre-hospital services staff.
The events coincided with the 34th Annual National EMS Week, May 20-26. The theme of this year’s observance was “EMS: Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Service.” This year marked the 14th consecutive year that Mercy has “fired up the grill” in honor of our region’s unsung heroes.
There are an estimated 750,000 paid and volunteer EMS professionals nationwide providing essential emergency medical services to their communities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The event was open to any area EMS provider.
