Uniontown offers programs Uniontown Hospital and its home health care agency, Fayette Home Care, will offer the following Community Education programs in June:

– The Safe Sitter Course offers youth over the age of 11 the opportunity to learn safe babysitting techniques from registered nurses. There are two sessions. Each session is 6.5 hours. The dates will be announced. A fee is charged to cover the cost of educational materials. To register, call 724-430-6925.

– Childbirth and Labor Preparation Courses are offered each month at Uniontown Hospital. The courses will be offered in a series of four sessions. The series is scheduled for Thursday, June 7, 14, 21 and 28. Each session is held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heritage Conference Room. Pre-registration is required. Call 724-430-4646.

– “Breast Feeding is Best Feeding Support Group” will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. June 11 in the Fourth Floor Conference Room. Bring your baby. The support group is led by lactation consultants who are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. For more information, call 724-430-5573. Registration is not necessary. Expectant moms are welcome.

– The Parent Support Group for Pregnancy and Infant Loss will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. June 14 in the in the hospital’s Library Conference Room. This support group is for parents experiencing a loss through miscarriage, stillbirth, newborn death, ectopic pregnancy or SIDS. Registration is not necessary. – “Look Good … Feel Better” is a free national public service program to help women undergoing cancer treatment learn to cope with the appearance-related side effects of treatment and regain a sense of self-confidence and control over their lives. The American Cancer Society and the Robert E. Eberly Pavilion will sponsor the program. The program will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 18, at the Robert E. Eberly Pavilion. Call 1-800-277-2345 to pre-register for the next class.

– Caregiver Advice Meetings are held from 4 to 5 p.m. every Thursday in the hospital’s Fourth loor Conference Room. For more information, call 724-430-6927.

– Sibling Preparation Class is offered by Uniontown Hospital to help prepare children for the arrival of a new baby brother or baby sister. The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the Library Conference Room. To register, call 724-430-4646.

– Outpatient Diabetes Classes will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 11, 18 and 25 in the Diabetes Center Classroom in the Medical Pavilion Building at 100 Woodlawn Ave. To register, call 724-430-5971. Patients must be referred by their doctors.

– Diabetes Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, in the Heritage Conference Room located on the hospital’s first floor. The topic of this month’s meeting will be “Healthy Summertime Eating” presented by Patty Leyshock, R.D. For more information, call the Diabetes Center at 724-430-5971.

– Fayette Regional Cancer Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the Heritage Conference Room on the hospital’s first floor. The topic presented will be “I Can Cope” presented by Rosemary O’Brien.

Referrals accepted

“Your Child’s Place,” a prescribed pediatric extended care center located at 289 North Ave. in Washington, announced that it is accepting referrals for children seeking enrollment.

“Your Child’s Place” provides medical and educational services to children who have complex medical needs that present them from attending typical child care centers.

“Your Child’s Place” recently completed the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Department of Public Welfare surveys and is now a fully licensed prescribed pediatric extended care center. It is only the third center of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania and one of a limited number throughout the United States.

Parents who have a child that may qualify for “Your Child’s Place” are encouraged to call 724-223-7801 to learn more about the program and to tour the facility.
