Bullskin residents complain about junk on property
BULLSKIN TWP. – Several Hoke Road residents told the supervisors Wednesday that they are “feed up” with the junk on Elmer Shear’s property. Supervisor Chairman Walter “Deb” Wiltrout said the supervisors are aware of the situation and have taken steps to make sure that the property is cleaned up.
“Code enforcement officer Roger Adams has been out and taken pictures of the property and Mr. Shear has been fined and ordered by the local district justice to clean up the property,” said Wiltrout.
“He has 30 days from May 10 to do the job and if he doesn’t he will be fined twice a week until he gets the property cleaned up.”
Wiltrout said Shear has been fined in the past for the same problem. He also said that he “somewhat” cleaned up his property in the past after being warned and fined.
“We recognize that this is an ongoing problem with this man,” continued Wiltrout. “However, we have to follow the proper procedures and go by what the law says in this situation. We are not permitted to just go in on the man’s property and do what we think should be done.”
Wiltrout said Shear has a lot of clutter, old chairs and debris on the property located just off Route 982, across from Kreinbrook Hill Road.
Lisa Monroe said the property is an “eyesore,” while Bill Rogers said last week someone dropped off an old couch and an old chair.
“It’s a disgrace,” said Rogers. “A lot of the stuff that was noticeable from the road has been moved behind the house. Another thing is that he doesn’t cut his grass. We all keep up with our property but because he doesn’t it makes us all look bad.”
Wiltrout said he’s not sure if the district justice can issue an order to have the property cleaned up and then charge Shear for the work but if it can be done that way he’s in favor of it.
“I just know that it’s a mess and no one likes looking at it,” said Wiltrout. “We are working on the problem and we should see some results real soon now.”
