Dawson Homecoming Weekend plans coming together
DAWSON – Members of the Tri-Town Historical Society are putting the finishing touches on plans for the 15th annual Dawson Homecoming Weekend to be held Friday through Sunday. Tri-Town Historical Society President Patty Lint said this year promises to be another good one, with plenty of food, music and activities for all ages.
“We love to bring people together,” said Lint. “People come back year after year, and we enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones.”
Lint said the weekend events would kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with the annual auction under the tent on the lawn of the Cochran House on Main Street. The historical society has obtained many items for the auction, she added. Food will be available during the auction.
Saturday’s events will begin at 9 a.m. with the annual 3K run and walk that will begin at the Cochran House. Lint said anyone not registered should arrive early to register.
Blu-Dogg Karaoke will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. An hour-long parade with 23 units will begin at 1 p.m. The parade will form in Dickerson Run, travel across the Dawson Bridge and proceed down Main Street.
Lint said Girls in Black Hats will take the stage at 2:30 and perform until 4:30 p.m.
The annual duck race on the Youghiogheny River will be held at 4 p.m. The duck race is a favorite among visitors, according to Lint. She said visitors place numbered rubber ducks in the river and the first three ducks to float under the Dawson Bridge are the winners. Prizes will be awarded.
The Del Soles will perform from 4:30 until 7 p.m. and High Ryder will take the stage from 7 until 9:30 p.m. Keystone Fireworks will put on a fireworks display at dusk.
Sunday’s events will begin at 11 a.m. with a picnic on the lawn of the Cochran House that will last until 2 p.m. Lint said there is a $7 charge for adults but children 5 and younger can eat for free.
Music will be provided during the picnic and the Chinese auction drawing will be held starting at 11 a.m. Winners of the Chinese auction will be announced at 2 p.m.
An antique car show will include classics, trucks, motorcycles, customs and special-interest cars, in addition to antique vehicles.
An ecumenical church service will be held Sunday following the picnic under the tent.
All weekend events will be held near the Cochran House on Main Street.
Food, crafts, specialty booths, games, baked goods and other activities will be available on Saturday.
