Hardy announces tourism initiative

Fayette County Commissioner Joe Hardy announced Thursday his privately funded marketing initiative to promote tourism in Fayette County in conjunction with Blaney Farms of Perryopolis. Hardy made the announcement in a press release late Wednesday afternoon.

The release stated that 10 of Blaney Farm’s tractor trailers will be fully covered with Visit Fayette County Pennsylvania graphics to further enhance the County’s tourism efforts. The d?cor will also a new website www.discoverfayette.com

that will go online in the first full week of June.

According to the press release, the website, in its final stages of development will feature links to various Fayette County informational and tourists sites.

One of the trailers will be displayed along East Peter Street behind Storey Square in Uniontown, on Friday, June 1, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Hardy, Bill Blaney, co-owner of Blaney Farms and Muriel Nuttall, executive director of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce will be on-site for a brief announcement about the project at 1 p.m. that afternoon in Storey Square, according to the release.

The 10 Blaney Farm’s tractor trailers showcasing the graphics will travel approximately 1.5 to 2 million miles annually, transporting general commodities across the eastern seaboard.

“Fayette County is home to numerous attractions and it is our goal to promote it as one of the leading tourism destinations in the region,” said Hardy. “Currently, there are more than three million tourists who visit Fayette County annually. We want that number to increase as Fayette County continues to develop and prosper”

According to the release Blaney mentioned the idea during a casual conversation with Hardy in January. A few days later, a representative of the Hardy Family’s Pierce Hardy Outdoor Advertising contacted Blaney and his idea began the transformation into a reality.

“My two brothers and I are pleased to be able to promote our area in this way,” said Blaney. “The final product had the input of many people and we believe we have balanced the scenic with the historic perspective of our beautiful area.”

Nuttall, also one of the administrators of the Fayette County Tourism Alliance added, “We are proud to have been a partner in the development of this marketing strategy. The opportunity to get the message of “Discover Fayette County” out to so many people is incredible. We’re thankful to Blaney Farms for making the offer and equally thankful to Mr. Hardy for seizing the opportunity. “
