Man faces charges for rape, robbery
A Lemont Furnace man already serving a state prison term is facing additional charges after police used DNA evidence to charge him in the 2005 rape and robbery of a Fayette County woman. State police said Cedric Lamont Greer, 33, will be charged before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham with rape, robbery, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and theft by unlawful taking.
Greer also is charged with additional counts of aggravated indecent assault, robbery, aggravated assault and terroristic threats for allegedly assaulting a Fayette County man during the incident.
Trooper John F. Marshall said Greer raped the woman at a secluded spot in Georges Township on Aug. 27 where the woman and man were having consensual sex in a vehicle.
Marshall said Greer approached the couple with a handgun, robbed them and then raped the woman.
Marshall said police matched DNA evidence collected from the woman, who was not identified, to DNA samples taken from Greer.
The samples were collected from Greer after police identified him through the FBI laboratory’s Combined DNA Index System, or what officers call CODIS, as a potential DNA match.
According to the FBI, CODIS combines forensic science and computer technology to solve violent crimes. The system links federal, state and local crime labs to exchange and compare DNA profiles electronically.
Marshall said the incident began as the man and woman were parked at the end of Fawn Ridge Road around 1 a.m.
Marshall said the couple drove there after watching two movies at a drive-in in Redstone Township.
He said the couple was engaged in consensual sexual intercourse in the back of the sport utility vehicle when they heard the driver’s side door open.
Marshall said Greer leaned into the vehicle and placed a handgun to the man’s head and ordered him from the vehicle.
The man was forced to strip naked and forced onto the ground outside the vehicle, where Greer covered his head with a T-shirt, Marshall said.
Greer then ordered the woman from the vehicle, placed the gun to her head and ordered her to perform oral sex, Marshall said.
Greer then ordered both of the victims to perform a series of sexual acts with each other and with him, Marshall said.
During the sex acts, Marshall said, Greer repeatedly threatened to kill both people if they did not comply.
After the sexual encounter, Greer ordered the man into the vehicle and walked the woman down a tractor path in a cornfield, Marshall said.
Greer then headed for a vehicle parked nearby and told the woman to go to her vehicle and drive away as fast as possible and not to look back, Marshall said.
The couple fled to Uniontown Hospital and called police.
Marshall said that during the alleged incident, Greer stole a small amount of cash and a pack of cigarettes from the victims.
Abraham will formally charge Greer by video arraignment on April 8.
Greer is currently serving nine to 18 months in state prison after being convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary and receiving stolen property stemming from an incident in North Union Township in 2006.
