Mary Elizabeth Zacoi, age 87, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Tuesday evening, April 1, 2008, in the Laurel Nursing Center.

… Mary Elizabeth Zacoi, age 87, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Tuesday evening, April 1, 2008, in the Laurel Nursing Center.

She was born October 14, 1920, in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of the late John G. Zacoi and Mildred J. Coyle Zacoi. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Isadore Beckett, her brother, Theodore Zacoi and his wife, Penny.

Mary was a member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church and occasionally attended the Saint Anthony Friary.

She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate Fan. She enjoyed gambling, loved bingo and participated in The Special Olympics.

In 1978, Laurel House Incorporated was blessed to have Mary join them. She became family to all that knew her at Laurel House. Daily she would sit and have a cup of tea with many that loved her. She was known as “Grandma” or Bubba” to many. She enjoyed going to the Senior Dances at the VFW in Uniontown, on Monday evenings.

She worked at Goodwill Industries, and then she started to attend the Adult Day Care and Senior Citizens Center in 1985. She became a volunteer there and worked in the kitchen. She loved to eat Peppermint Patties and Combos.

She is survived by her nephews: Robert Zacoi and his wife, Christine of Pittsburgh, and their children: Natalie and Nicholas; Thomas Zacoi and his wife, Sarah of Pittsburgh, and their children: Neil, Maggie and Jordon; and Sam Beckett. Mary is also survived by her many loving and devoted friends at Laurel House, Inc.; especially her dear friend, Bill Roebuck,

Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, on Friday, April 4, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said, followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil as Celebrant.

Interment follows in Mount Macrina Cemetery.
