Five young ladies crowned Miss Greene County
On Sunday, April 13, thirteen contestants competed in the 2008 Miss Greene County Pageant held at the Carmichaels Area High School. The thirteen contestants competed inside the Stanley Ferek III Auditorium in their respective age division to selected categories and were scored by a panel of judges. The categories included Interview, Photogenic, Sportswear, Talent and Evening Gown.
In the Tiny Division for girls 2 to 4 years old, Alexa LouAnn Smith, daughter of Denny and Amy Smith of Carmichaels, was crowned the 2008 Queen by Remmey Lohr, 2007 Tiny Miss Greene County. Alexa received the photogenic, sportswear and evening gown award. The talent and interview competition was excluded from this division.
In the Petite Division for girls 5 to 7 years old, Micaela Ricco, daughter of Tom and Carrie Ricco of Carmichaels, was crowned the 2008 Queen by Delaney Lohr, 2007 Petite Miss Greene County. Micaela received the talent and photogenic award.
Also competing in this category was Olivia King, daughter of Gary and Shalene King of Waynesburg; Hayleigh Cagle, daughter of Raymond and Shannon Cagle of Mt. Morris; Emily Paige Cooke, daughter of Karl and Katie Cooke of Waynesburg; and Sara Mae Husner, daughter of Robert Husner and Eloise Phillips of Mt. Morris.
Olivia King was awarded first runner-up, evening gown and sportswear. Emily Paige Cooke was recognized for the contestant who raised the most advertising revenue for the 2008 Miss Greene County Pageant Program and will receive a savings bond. The interview competition was excluded from this division.
In the Junior Division for girls 8 to 11 years old, Nina Rivera, daughter of Chad and Eryan Coss of Waynesburg, was crowned the 2008 Queen by Amanda Frampton, 2007 Junior Miss Greene County. Nina received the photogenic, sportswear, talent and evening gown award. The interview competition was excluded from this division.
In the Young Division for girls 12 to 14 years old, Mikayla Sonneborn, daughter of Rick and Marcia Sonneborn of Wind Ridge, was crowned the 2008 Queen. Mikayla was awarded the talent, sportswear, photogenic and interview award.
Also competing in this category was Kendall Lewis, daughter of Mark and Jeanette Lewis of Carmichaels. Kendall was awarded first runner-up and evening gown.
Shelby Boord, 2007 Young Miss Greene County, was unable to attend this part of the pageant due to receiving her confirmation at a ceremony held at this time.
In the Teen Division for girls 15 to 17 years old, Kayla Coss, daughter of John and Jenny Coss of Waynesburg, was crowned the 2008 Queen by Erica Bristor, 2007 Teen Miss Greene County. Kayla also received the evening gown award.
Also competing in this category was Karyn Chojnicki, daughter of Keith and Melinda Chojnicki of Spraggs; Jessica Husman, daughter of Donna Husman of Carmichaels; and Danielle Bihun, daughter of Debbie Throckmorton of Waynesburg, who was awarded first runner-up and talent.
Karyn Chojnicki was awarded the photogenic award and Jessica Husman received the sportswear and interview award.
The Queens were presented with a $100 savings bond, tiara, sash, trophy and bouquet.
“These young individuals are an inspiration and should be commended for perfecting their talents, having fun and showing great sportsmanship,” said Greene County Commissioner Pam Snyder.
“It is very clear when you see those contestants competing for the same title congratulating and praising each other for their accomplishments that Greene County possesses good family values. We are very fortunate to have individuals and businesses who contribute to these young individuals so they can showcase their qualities, talent and creativeness by participating in the pageant.”
The Greene County Tourist Promotion Agency recognized the following for their contributions to the 2008 Miss Greene County Pageant: CONSOL Energy; the County Commissioners; the 2007 Queens and their respective families; the 2008 contestants and families; various local banks, including Community Bank, National City, First Federal Savings and Loan of Greene County, and First National; and various local businesses and volunteers.
