1 min read

The Fayette County Children’s Water Festival will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Divito Park in Dunbar. The event is geared to teach Fayette County students basic water concepts through hands-on exercises as they learn about topics such as different water types (surface and ground water), the importance of water to all life, the role of the water cycle, non-point source pollution, abandoned mine drainage, wetland and watershed ecology and the effects of human activities on water and nature.

This year, the festival is expected to attract over 800 sixth grade students from 13 Fayette County schools.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will present programs titled “It’s a Wonderful Biodiverse Life,” and “Rain Forest.”

Area organizations and businesses will also take part in the event by providing information and educational activities including the Woodland Zoo, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Mountain Watershed Association along with the Indian Creek Valley Water Authority, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Game Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Fish and Boat Commission and the Bureau of Forestry.

The Fayette County commissioners also have been invited.
