Church to host blood drive
Masontown Brethren Church, located at West Church Avenue and Locust Street, is sponsoring a replenishment blood drive in honor of Nancy Wilson, who has had a long history of cancer, then a spinal infection requiring two surgeries and many blood transfusions. As a member of the church, she has been moderator, vice moderator, secretary and treasurer. She has worked as a leader at the district church camp, planning Vacation Bible school using her own material and as a Sunday school teacher. She is employed by Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as a nurse on the cardiac step down unit.
The blood drive is open to the community. All blood collected by the Central Blood Bank stays in this area of southwest Pennsylvania and contiguous states. All blood collected in her name will be reserved for her.
To give blood, a donor must be 17 (16 with parental permission), at least 110 pounds, in reasonably good health, no tattoos and not taking antibiotics. ID is needed. For more information, call the Central Blood Bank at 1-866-DONORS. Participants are asked to make a reservation by April 28. The blood drive is Friday, May 9, from noon to 6 p.m. at the church. Donors are asked to use the back door of the social hall closest to Masontown Central Elementary School. The Rev. Stephen S. Cole is pastor.
