Robinson doing it all as senior
During their run to the top of Section 2-A, most of the attention paid to the Carmichaels Mighty Mikes has been directed towards juniors Joby Lapkowicz and Chuck Gasti. While the third-year stars have put up gaudy numbers throughout the Mikes’ 10-1 run, another player has gone mostly unnoticed, but is no less important to the team’s success. Senior third baseman/pitcher Marcus Robinson has been a valuable member of the team’s ultra-deep pitching staff and has also spent all year batting in the middle of the order, routinely bringing Lapkowicz and Gasti across home plate with RBI after RBI.
This past week, Robinson’s entire repertoire was on full display as he shone both at the plate and on the pitcher’s mound. His efforts were vital in three-straight section victories that pushed Carmichaels to a league-best 8-0. Those same efforts have also earned him this week’s Greene County Messenger Athlete of the Week Award.
Back on April 16, Robinson and his mates squared off against Mapletown. The senior had his best game of the week as he cranked out four RBI on the day. As if that wasn’t enough, he also held the Maples to just six hits and two runs as he threw a five-inning complete game with a walk and a strikeout.
During an 11-2 win over West Greene on April 17, Robinson again led his team in RBI with three as the Mikes rolled to another win over a county opponent.
Finally, on April 22, Robinson drove in two big runs for the Mikes in a contest against a serious playoff contender in Geibel Catholic. The senior’s two runs driven in came as part of a 4-1 win for Carmichaels that kept their season-long section winning streak alive.
