Brownsville puts tickets on sale for Kennywood Day
BROWNSVILLE – While there have been many changes in Brownsville over the past century, one thing has remained constant: Brownsville Community Day at Kennywood Park. Thursday, Aug. 7, marks the 95th year for the annual event that benefits the area fire departments. Brownsville No. 1 (North Side) is coordinating this year’s Kennywood Day, with Tom Wardman chairing the Kennywood Committee.
“Last year we sold a little over 2,000 tickets,” Wardman said.
Wardman said the money raised through the ticket sales benefits the three local fire departments.
“Most of the money just goes to maintain the departments, things like paying for utilities,” Wardman said.
Ticket sales begin today from 6-9 p.m. at the Brownsville No. 1 fire hall and at the South Brownsville and West Brownsville fire halls starting Saturday from noon until 9 p.m. Ticket sales will continue until the event on Thursday, when tickets will be sold from 8 a.m. until noon. Wardman said Brownsville firefighters will also be at the Republic Fire Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. selling tickets.
Wardman said all of the tickets are ride-all-day tickets and they are being sold at a discounted price of $21.
They can be used any day the park is open.
Wardman said senior citizen tickets are further discounted to $11, but those purchasing the tickets need to show proof that they are 55 or older.
“We lost a little bit of the senior citizens. We have to card them to make sure they’re 55,” Wardman said.
