Smithfield woman hits jackpot at Meadows
A Fayette County woman recently hit the jackpot and walked away with more than $100,000. Patricia Stoker of Smithfield won $122,888 Wednesday while playing a $1 progressive slot machine at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in North Strabane Township, Washington County.
Stoker said she was still having a hard time Thursday believing she won the money.
“It’s still sinking in,” she said.
Stoker said she’s not a big gambler herself but that her mother enjoys playing the slots.
“I take my 92-year-old mother because that’s what she likes to do for enjoyment,” Stoker said.
She said she didn’t know what to do when the bells and whistles on the machine she was playing went off.
“I thought the machine got stuck, and I called for help. When they told me I won, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
Stoker commented she will use the money to pay some medical expenses and help out her family.
“It’s a nice little plus,” Stoker said, noting that she and her husband, Arley Stoker Jr., will make upcoming financial decisions together.
Stoker declined further comment Thursday, citing privacy reasons and saying she and her husband needed more time to think things over.
According to a press release issued by The Meadows, Stoker’s win was the second-highest jackpot ever handed out in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The record jackpot remains at $131,674 and was won at The Meadows in February.
Michael Graninger, Meadows vice president and general manager, congratulated Stoker on hitting the jackpot.
“We’re very pleased for Ms. Stoker and extend our congratulations,” he said.
