BENEFIT RUN – Greene County ABATE will hold a benefit bike run for Leah Koller and Gavin Moore on Saturday Aug. 2. Signup will be at the county Airport Restaurant from 10:30-11:30 and the run will start at noon. Cost is $20 per bike. For more info, call Debbie Schaffer at 724-852-1789. Leah is an eight-year-old from Jefferson who is battling a cancerous brain tumor, and three-year-old Gavin of Graysville was recently diagnosed with leukemia. ANNUAL REUNION – The Old Friends of the Muddy Creek Area will gather for their annual reunion at the Wilson Farm on Haines Hollow Road on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish and a lot of memories to be shared. Plans call for the usual “homemade ice cream.” Reservations are not necessary. All old friends, relatives and acquaintances are urged to attend. Hunting stories will be swapped, and football and softball glories will be re-lived.
FRIDAY DANCE – Friday night dances are held weekly at the Carmichaels Senior Center, with different bands providing the entertainment each week. This week’s band is “Best Of Times,” and dancing runs from 7 – 11 p.m. There is a cost of admission per person.
LIBRARY SLEEPOVER – The Flenniken Library is holding a sleepover on Friday, Aug. 1 for anyone entering grades 5-8. The party will be limited to 20 participants. Registration forms are available at the circulation desk. Activities will include games, prizes, pizza and snacks. No one will be allowed to enter or leave the building during the party, and participants will be required to settle down for quiet time. For more information, call 724-966-5263.
SCHOOL REUNIONS – West Greene High School Classes of 1988 and 1989 will hold a combined reunion on Aug. 8 at the school gym, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is casual dress and there is no admission fee. VBS EVENT – Jefferson Church of the Nazarene will host Vacation Bible School Aug. 11-15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. For more info, call Pastor Carl at 724-883-3456.
GOLF SCRAMBLE – A four-person golf scramble sponsored by Social Service League will be held Aug. 23 at Rohanna’s Golf Course with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. There is an entry fee per person or team, which includes green fees, cart fees, donuts and coffee, and homemade lunch. Many skill prizes, hole in one prizes sponsored by First Federal, and raffle prizes will be awarded. Proceeds from the 16th outing benefits the under privileged children of Central Greene School District. FRONTIER FESTIVAL – The 26th annual Mason-Dixon Frontier Festival will be held Aug. 23 and 24, from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. both days. No admission charge, free door prizes donated by vendors. There will be a church service as well as live music, crafters, food vendors, chain saw carvers, civil war reenactments, antique engine and car displays, trapping displays, free pony rides and much more. The event will be held at the Mason-Dixon Park. Take 1-79 to exit 1, Mt. Morris, PA to Buckeye Rd to Creek Rd ½ mile to park. Free camping during the weekend of festival.
