By The 1 min read

Two Brownsville residents suffered serious injuries Thursday evening when the sport utility vehicle they were driving overturned on the Mon/Fayette Expressway near California. State police said Shamel Bumpass and Shawn Bumpass were both flown by medical helicopter from the crash site to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police said Shamel Bumpass remained in critical condition Friday morning, while Shawn Bumpass was listed in fair condition.

Police said the crash occurred as Shamel Bumpass lost control of her 1998 Oldsmobile Bravado on a curve, causing the vehicle to overturn three times.

Both motorists were ejected from the SUV, police said.

Additionally, police said two dogs were traveling in the vehicle but were found uninjured at the crash site.

Police noted that the couple was not wearing seat belts.
