Plans are moving into high gear for an antique and appraisal weekend at the Center In The Woods in California. Open to the public, the fund-raising event will run as follows:

Friday, Sept. 12 – Hidden Treasure Reception, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Harry L. Rinker, host of Collector Inspector on Home & Garden Television, will offer an introductory presentation about antiques and collectibles. The fare will include appetizers and desserts from area businesses and a Chinese auction.

Admission is $35 and tickets are available in advance at the Center In The Woods.

Saturday, Sept. 13 – A waffle breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11 a.m. in the Center at a cost of $5 per person. Antiquing will begin at 9 a.m. with dealers set up outside the center. Inside, local appraisers will offer appraisals on the approximate value of personal items. Cost for the appraisals will be $8 each or three items for $20. Activities will run until 5 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 14 – The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with dealers and appraisers again on hand. A grand finale auction will be held at 2 p.m. featuring treasures donated by antique dealers and others.

Food and refreshments will be sold throughout the activities Saturday and Sunday.

Special guest at the event will be Rinker, who will be conducting informative workshops Saturday and Sunday. Such topics as “What’s Hot and What’s Not in Antiques and Collectibles?” and “Sell, Keep or Toss: How to Downsize a Home, Settle an Estate and Appraise Personal Property” will be discussed. Workshops will be $5 per class.

Margie McKinley, who is assisted by Caroline Fecek of Brownsville in coordinating the September weekend, is working closely with Ken Laird, chairman of the CITW Board of Directors, with advance preparations.

They are seeking corporate and individual sponsors for various segments of the program.

Additional information is available by calling McKinley at 724-938-9585, and antique and collectible dealers wishing to reserve space are asked to call her or Kris McAvoy at the Center in the Woods, 724-938-3554, ext. 102, for more information.
