Motorcyclist injured in crash
A Uniontown man suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle he was operating and a pickup truck crashed on Route 40 in North Union Township Saturday afternoon. Emergency officials said Mark Lovey Jr. of Uniontown was flown by HeathNet medical helicopter from the scene to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
An update on his condition was not available late Saturday. He was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. as Lovey was traveling west on Route 40 and was struck by a pickup truck driven by a Masontown man near the intersection with Brown Street, about 100 yards outside of Uniontown, state police said.
Trooper Nicholas Petrosky said charges are pending against the man, who was taken into custody at the scene. He was not injured in the crash, according to police.
David Hulton of Uniontown, a friend of Lovey’s, said Lovey had just purchased the Suzuki motorcycle Saturday.
In addition to state police, volunteer firefighters from Hopwood and emergency personnel from Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance responded to the crash.
Petrosky said the crash remains under investigation.
No further information on the crash was available as of press time.
