Man injured in bike accident
State police are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that struck a Uniontown man while he was riding a bicycle on Derrick Avenue Tuesday evening. Trooper Nicholas Petrosky said the crash occurred at 8:16 p.m. when a beige or gold Honda CRV struck Neal Edward Glover near the intersection with Mayflower Street.
Glover, 29, was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment following the crash, according to Glover’s sister, Trina Layhue.
Layhue said the collision occurred about 10 houses from her home in South Union Township.
“A woman came to my house and told me that my brother pulled out in front of her but that he was OK,” Layhue said. “She repeated it about three times, and said after she hit him, he sent her down to the house to tell me.”
Layhue said the woman – described as white and heavy set with dirty blonde or gray hair in her late 30s or early 40s – then left her home and fled the scene.
She said that Glover had thought the woman was merely a witness to the crash and had sent her to the house to let his family know he had been struck.
Layhue said Thursday that Glover has been released from the hospital with multiple lacerations to his face and head as well as a fractured neck.
“He has stitches in his eyebrow and in his chin. His face is pretty mangled right now,” Layhue said. “He looks like he was in a boxing match but considering what happened he is doing excellent.”
Layhue said she is hopeful that anyone with information regarding the crash will come forward.
“People think that this road is a racetrack,” Layhue said. “Cars fly up and down here every day. Now I am afraid to go for a walk with my child. I just hope we can find the woman who struck my brother.”
Petrosky noted that the woman’s vehicle should have some front-end damage.
Petrosky said anyone with information regarding the crash should call state police at 724-439-7111.
