He was born August 9, 1920, in Atkins, Arkansas the son of the late Paul Grote and Cecilia Miller Grote.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Brehun Grote, his brothers, Herbert Grote and Charles Grote, his son-in-law, Robert Volk, his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Grote and Thelma Grote and his brothers-in-law, John Garbutt, Alvin Herring and Joseph Shander.
Ramond was a graduate of Uniontown High School class of 1938 and was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Army in WWII. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 0753 in New Salem. He retired in 1979 from Maple Creek Mine-US Steel as a mine foreman. Ramond was granted the Holmes Medal of Honor in 1966. He loved to work in his garden and was an avid hunter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Catney Grote; his loving and devoted children: Mary Ellen Donovan and her husband, Harry of Charleroi, Pa., Janet Musgrove and her husband, Harry of Uniontown, Pa., Gerald Grote and his wife, Ceane of Smock, Pa., Nancy Volk of Wexford, Pa. and Raymond Grote of Belle Vernon, Pa; his grandchildren whom he adored: William Donovan, Holly Donovan, Michael Donovan, Laura Perrier and her husband, Peter, Elizabeth Musgrove, Katherine Musgrove, Jessica Volpe and her husband, Jeffery, Joshua Grote, Emily Ford and her husband, James, Steven Volk, Rachel Volk, Seth Patrick Grote and Ashley Renay Grote and his great-grandson whom he cherished, Justin Ford. Ramond is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Gilbert Grote of New Salem, Pa., Eugene Grote and his wife, Eleanor of Uniontown, Pa., Vincent Grote and his wife, Loretta, New Salem, Pa., Genevieve Garbutt of Buffington, Rita Herring of Hopwood, Pa., Loretta Grimes and her husband, William; sisters-in-law: Jane Grote of Uniontown, Marie Wagner and her husband, Gerald of Zilman, Maryland, Rita Shander of Uniontown; brother-in-law, Francis Brehun and his wife, Mary Ann of Perth Amboy, New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., on Saturday, August 9, 2008, from 7-9 p.m., and on Sunday, August 10, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church (time to be announced) with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as Celebrant.
Interment follows in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
Military Honors will be accorded at graveside.
