Man, teen accused of burglarizing home
CONNELLSVILLE – City police have charged a homeless man and a 15-year-old male of Connellsville with allegedly burglarizing a city residence. Michael N. Johns, 19, is charged with single felony counts of criminal conspiracy, burglary and criminal trespass along with single misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors in connection with the July 15 incident. Charges against the juvenile were filed with the Fayette County Juvenile Probation Office.
According to the criminal complain filed by Connellsville police Det. Lt. Steven Shaffer with the office of Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty, Joseph D. Mauger notified the department that his South Carnegie Avenue residence had been burglarized.
Mauger said an Xbox 360, games and accessories were removed from the home.
During the investigation, Shaffer said he found the 15-year-old in possession of the equipment and was allegedly informed that Johns had also taken part in the burglary.
Police said that the juvenile and Johns gave oral and written statements that the juvenile entered the home through a window and unlocked a door that permitted Johns entrance into the residence.
Both allegedly admitted to removing the video game equipment from the residence.
Johns was arraigned before Haggerty and lodged in Fayette County Prison after failing to post the imposed $25,000 straight cash bond. He faces an Aug. 14 preliminary hearing in the matter.
