Steve A. Bertan, 94, of Fairchance, Pa., died Friday, August 8, 2008, in Laurel Ridge Center, Uniontown, Pa., with his… Steve A. Bertan, 94, of Fairchance, Pa., died Friday, August 8, 2008, in Laurel Ridge Center, Uniontown, Pa., with his loving family by his side.
He was born July 13, 1914, in Revere, Pa., son of the late Andrew and Susan Sokolsky Bertan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret L. Marano Bertan and sisters, Mary Ellen Bertan, Ann Bertan and Mary Ralke.
Steve was a coal miner for 36 years until retirement with the United States Steel Maple Creek Mine.
He also was a former member of the Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance.
He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Marie A. Wexler of Oak Hill, Va., and son, Steve A. Bertan, Jr. of Akron, Ohio; three grandchildren: Patrick Kessler of Centre Ville, Va., Cheryl Wood of Reston, Va., and James Bertan of Indianapolis, Indiana; three great-grandchildren: Lauren Kessler, Kyleigh Kessler and William Wood; sisters-in-law, Mary Marano of Fairchance, Pa., and Mary Marano of Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and his extended loving family members, Gloria Horabik, Faye Horabik and Jamie Hines.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, until 10 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10:30 a.m. in the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, 50 North Morgantown Street, Fairchance, Pa., with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
Parish Wake Service will be held Monday at 8:45 p.m.
