Georges adopts ordinance to penalize poorly maintained properties

GEORGES TWP. – Georges Township supervisors adopted an ordinance Tuesday that is designed to aid the township’s code enforcement officer battle blight. Supervisors unanimously voted to adopt the ordinance, which restricts the height of vegetation and sets procedures for cutting the vegetation once it reaches a certain height.

The ordinance also establishes penalties that will be imposed on property owners who fail to maintain their respective properties.

A motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Supervisor Mike Bartock and seconded by Supervisor Frank Churby. Supervisor Mark Migyanko voted in favor of adopting the ordinance, with the motion passing 3-0.

Bartock cautioned property owners who fail to maintain their property and said the township’s code enforcement officer will be issuing citations.

According to Bartock, supervisors have recently received several complaints regarding high weeds and junked vehicles throughout the township.

“Our code enforcement officer is getting it cleaned up,” he said, noting that supervisors have decided to take a firm stand against neglected properties.

The next township meeting will be held at 3:45 p.m. Sept. 9 in the municipal building.
