Preliminary hearing continued in fatal stabbing case

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

A preliminary hearing was continued Wednesday for the second time for a 29-year-old Menallen Township woman accused of stabbing her mother to death and also stabbing her brother. Angela Michelle Modispaw of 701 Second St., Smock, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Joseph George Jr. with homicide and two counts of aggravated assault following an attack at her family’s home at 4:15 a.m. April 11.

Modispaw allegedly used a butcher knife to try and cut her mother’s throat and then stabbed her five times, including once in the heart, according to a criminal complaint filed by state police Trooper James L. Garlick.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer pronounced Theresa Maureen Modispaw, 58, dead at the scene at 6:36 a.m. An autopsy conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht of Allegheny County revealed Theresa Modispaw died from loss of blood.

Garlick said Angela Modispaw also attacked her aunt, Marian Materkowski, and her brother, Michael Modispaw, with the butcher knife and a meat cleaver.

She eventually stabbed her brother in the back with a pair of scissors, Garlick said.

Angela Modispaw allegedly told police she heard voices that told her to attack her mother.

She remains in the Fayette County Prison without bail.
